Iranian movie, animation in Cannes Film Festival

TEHRAN, May 17 (MNA) – ‘The Return,’ also rendered as ‘Sacred List,’ an animation by Mohammad Hamadani has been invited to participate in Cannes Animation Day, a day to celebrate famous animated works.

Ayat Media Institute announced the story on Tuesday. Two Iranian animated works had received special attention since they had been exceptionally invited to participate in Animation Day. The rules of Cannes Festival asserts that only works in active competition in the event would be also invited in Animation Day. However, ‘Belal’ and ‘The Return’ had been exceptions to this rule.

‘The Return’ garnered the standing ovation and acclaim in marché du film in Cannes on Monday. Owj Art and Media Co. is the producer of the animation.

Still in a related story, ‘Mahi’ (‘The Vanquisher’) directed by Davoud Khayyam will also participate in Cannes’ marché du film. The major distributor of the film is Marjan Alizadeh’s Iran Art House Film. The movie narrates a real story taking place sometime between 2012 and 2013. The narrating character, an eponymous character, Mahi, relates the story.

Notable among the cast are Ana Nemati, Mehran Ahmadi, Homayoun Ersahdi, Ehsan Amani, Sepideh Alaei, Hoda Nourizadeh, and Maryam Davoudi.
